Terms of Service
Effective August 10, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and The Hord, Inc. (“HORD”, “we”, “us”). They govern your membership in HORD — the app and thehord.io (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
1. Membership
HORD is entered by introduction. An invitation code admits one person, is personal to whoever received it, and may be revoked or disabled by us. You must be at least 18 years old to hold an account. You agree to provide accurate information, to hold one account, and to keep your sign-in method (your email or Apple ID) secure — activity on your account is your responsibility. Membership is free; if paid features arrive, they'll come with their own terms.
2. Your content
You own the photographs and information you add to your collection. So that the registry can work, you grant HORD a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, analyze, and display your content — to operate the Service, to generate identifications and valuations (including through the AI and market-data providers named in the Privacy Policy), to show your profile and pieces to other members according to your settings, and to build the anonymized market data described in section 3. This license ends when your content is deleted, except as section 3 provides for anonymized contributions. You represent that you have the right to upload what you upload, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.
3. Contribution to anonymized market indices
HORD's market intelligence depends on an honest, stable record. By cataloguing an item, you agree that its attributes — such as brand, model, category, condition, and valuation — contribute permanently to aggregated, anonymized market indices. This contribution:
- is anonymized — indices are statistical aggregates that never identify you or your collection, and are published only above minimum-contributor thresholds;
- is independent of your visibility settings — a privately-held piece still counts in the aggregate, though it is never shown to members;
- is irrevocable — because an index that rewrites its history is not a record, contributions stand as anonymized point-in-time data even after you delete an item or close your account.
If you don't want an item reflected in the indices, don't catalogue it.
4. Valuations are estimates
Valuations on HORD are automated estimates generated from photographs, item details, and third-party market data. They are provided for your information only. They are not appraisals, not offers to buy or sell, and not financial, investment, insurance, or tax advice. Markets move, comparable sales are imperfect, and automated identification can be wrong — we make no guarantee that a valuation is accurate or that any piece would realize it. For decisions that matter (insurance, sale, estate, tax), consult a qualified appraiser.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service unlawfully, or upload content you have no right to share;
- knowingly misrepresent counterfeit or stolen goods as authentic or yours;
- impersonate another person, or harass or abuse other members;
- scrape, harvest, or bulk-extract data from the Service, or probe, disrupt, or overload it;
- resell, trade, or publicly distribute invitation codes;
- reverse engineer the Service except where the law says we can't stop you.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules or put the registry's integrity at risk.
6. The registry is social
Other admitted members can see your profile, your catalogued pieces, your follows, and where you sit in the introduction graph. Whether they see your valuations is your choice, in Settings. HORD is a members-only space — what you can see of other collectors' holdings is for your membership, not for redistribution.
7. HORD's property
The Service — including the HORD name and marks, the app, the site, our valuation systems, and our aggregated data — belongs to The Hord, Inc. and its licensors. These terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app to participate in the registry, and nothing more. If you send us feedback, we may use it without obligation to you.
8. Third-party services
The Service is built on third-party infrastructure and market-data sources (see the Privacy Policy). Their availability isn't ours to promise, and third-party data is provided as-is.
9. Leaving, and being asked to leave
You can delete your account any time in the app (Settings → Account → Delete account) — see the Privacy Policy for what happens to your data, and section 3 for what stands in the indices. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, create risk for HORD or its members, or where the law requires. Sections that by their nature should survive (2–4, 7, 10–12) survive.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that valuations, identifications, or indices are accurate or complete.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, The Hord, Inc. and its officers, employees, and partners will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost value, or lost data, arising from your use of the Service — including reliance on any valuation. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of $100 or the amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
12. Indemnity, governing law, and disputes
You agree to indemnify HORD against claims arising from your content or your breach of these terms. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before any formal dispute, you agree to contact us at info@thehord.io and give us a chance to resolve it informally; failing that, disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts of Delaware, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
13. Changes
We may update these terms as HORD evolves. We'll post the updated version here with a new effective date, and for material changes we'll give you notice in the app. Your continued use after a change takes effect means you accept it.
